Friday 5th December 2008
The Gramophone Awards - often called the Oscars of the classical music world - are the most significant honours bestowed on the classical record industry and Chetham's had reason to celebrate at this year's Annual Classic FM / Gramophone Awards which were announced in September.
The Gabrieli Consort and Player's CD recording of Haydn's The Creation, was the winner in the Choral category. Featuring Chetham's Chamber Choir, the success of our partnership on this project has gone from strength to strength, and will be celebrated with another chance to hear The Creation in concert at the BBC Proms on 18 July 2009.
Former Chets student, Paul Lewis won the acclaimed Record of the Year Award for Beethoven's Piano Sonata's Volume 4.
Stephen Hough's recording of the complete Saint-Saƫns Piano Concertos has been named as the most popular recording of the past 30 years at this year's Classic FM Gramophone Awards.
